The idea of More Than Music brought Chris and Thibault together to engage musicians, artists, and those who surround them to talk about how their pursuits have affected the rest of their lives. The often overlook reality is that dedicating oneself to ones art is not all about the euphoric moments of creation and expression. It requires a commitment that can take precedence over almost everything else in your life, resulting in lost relationships, financial hardships, alcohol and drug addictions, a strong sense of isolation and so much more. The pursuit of art and the idea of suffering for it are traits that go against what society portraits as important to life. There are dangers, pitfalls, and unhealthy patterns that can come in living an inspired and dedicated life to the arts. More than music is a podcast that engages our guests into a reflection of how they navigate themselves to try and find harmony, balance and more importantly what they do to maintain it.

Matty Grace is a musician from the East Coast of Canada who has been in so many bands that it’s almost impossible to count. Outta Controller, Fat Stupids, Weekend Dads, Sore Spots, Future Girls, Modern Cynics, Century Egg, Cluttered (who just won the Music Nova Scotia Loud Recording of the year Award) and she performs as a solo artist and let’s be honest, I’m sure I’ve missed at least a dozen more.
She has been a staple in the Halifax DIY punk community forever and the bands she has been in have releases on labels from all over the world. At the end of February of this year she moved to Ottawa and already has a new band, Crisis Party, with some of Ottawa’s friendliest punks.
Matty is a very active trans advocate who has been dealing with her own dysphoria with a huge support network based on how great she is as a person.
